Young Musicians Award 2025 - scores
Faraway Ballad is a lyrical piece which alludes to the idea of farness and to the fortuitous sensation of its profundity, thus fulfilling itself as music to be played away, or from afar.
biography
Tiago Simas began his musical studies in Torres Vedras, concluding the Secondary Course of Gregorian Chant at the Gregorian Institute of Lisbon. He maintains a double path at Lisbon School of Music, where he graduated in Voice under the instruction of Armando Possante and studied Composition with João Madureira, Sérgio Azevedo and Carlos Caires, in which field he is now a student of Luís Tinoco. With great interest in music of different aesthetics and historical periods, he performs a very diversified repertoire which spans from early to contemporary music and works with various renowned groups in the Portuguese musical medium. As a composer, he searches for a clear, expressive discourse, grounded in the exploration of sound objects from various musical languages, in the conscience of the intrinsic relationship between the art of the past and present as contenders for the same dialogue.
