Rui Gama was born in Oporto, Portugal. He started to have guitar lessons with his father and than he was accept at Oporto Conservatory in guitar. He did also percussion at Espinho Academy of Music. He continues his studies at Superior School of Music in Oporto when he studied with José Pina. Later he moved to Paris where he studied with Alberto Ponce. At the University of Aveiro he completed is Postgraduate in guitar performance and recently held de Specialty Title in Guitar at Superior School of Music in Castelo Branco. He attended master classes with Abel Carlevaro, Robert Brightmore, Roberto Aussel, Alberto Ponce, Tomas Camacho, Leo Brouwer, Betho Davezac, François Dry, Carlos Bonell e Hopkinson Smith. Rui Gama is also a frequent guest of various concert halls. His concert repertory include as soloist and chamber music where he had work with violinist, flute, guitar, singing and mandolim. He makes part of the Oporto Guitar Trio and have a project with the soprano Dora Rodrigues called L’Effetto Ensemble and with mandolinist António Vieira called Ciglia Ensemble. As a soloist he has appeared with the Orchestra of the Conservatory of Braga with Concerto by Villa- Lobos, with the Porto National Orchestra “Concerto de Aranjuez” under the direction of Martin André at Casa da Música in Porto, Rodrigo “Concerto Andaluz” debut X International Competition in Portugal City Fundão, “Concerto de Aranjuez” with the Classical Orchestra Center , the Concert “Acerca de la Felicidad” - Javier Ribas debut with the Orchestre Portuguese Guitars and Mandolin Ensemble and the plectre Esch- Sur - Alzette Luxembourg under the direction of Maestro Juan Carlos. Other projects include the CD recording " Seventeen Pieces for Guitar " the composer Paulo Bastos and the Concert “Acerca de la Felicidad” as well as participation in the Festival Opera Ponte de Lima with the National Orchestra of Porto in the " Il Barbiere di Siviglia " by G. Rossini , under the direction of Maestro Marc Tardue. Futures projects inclued a recording for future released with L’Effetto Ensemble with spanish and portuguese composers songs.
