About
The new generation of Portuguese instrumentalists demonstrates its quality and vitality on an album about to be released by the Artway label. Winner of the Prémio Jovens Músicos (Young Musicians Award) 2023 in the Chamber Music category, ClandesTrio features Leonardo Guedes (violin), Guilherme Duque (clarinet), and Duarte Bento (piano). Three promising talents, trained at the Lisbon Conservatoire and the National Superior Orchestra Academy, who have since furthered their studies at prestigious artistic schools in Geneva and Brussels. The trio tackles key pieces for their formation that defined the 20th century: Bartók's Contrasts (1938) and the trios by Aram Khachaturian (1932) and Paul Schoenfield (1990). The album also highlights contemporary Portuguese music, exemplified by the recent composition by the Azorean Sara Ross, a piece commissioned by Casa da Música and premiered by ClandesTrio. Four works from different geographies, yet united by a common essence: they all draw from the traditional music of their places of origin, whether that tradition is ancient, reinvented, or imagined. Proof that chamber music, even when rooted in tradition, can be profoundly contemporary, urgent, and alive. Entitled ContraFolk, ClandesTrio's debut album is set for release on October 25th, on CD and all major streaming services. The pre-release event will take place on September 17th at 5:00 PM as part of the Young Musicians Festival (Festival Jovens Músicos) at the Gulbenkian Foundation. Admission is free, and the event will be streamed live on Antena 2 and RTP Palco.
