"Das Cinzas, Carvão" originates from the expression “making coal from ashes" (fazer das cinzas, carvão), invoking the idea of reversing a natural process, transforming something already burned back to its original state, thus exploring the duality between destruction and rebirth. Written for solo violin, this piece follows a sonic trajectory between the ephemeral and the permanent, beginning with ethereal, fragmented sounds (evoking suspended ashes) and later evolving into dense, rustic textures. Moments of silence punctuate the narrative, culminating in a climax of double stops and vigorous bow attacks, suggesting a latent combustion that never fully extinguishes.
