About
Tiago Coimbra releases his highly anticipated first solo album, OBOE + , on November 20th – on CD and digital platforms. A new Artway edition, the album puts Portugal on the map of contemporary oboe composition, presenting a set of original works written from scratch by nine of the most relevant Portuguese composers of today.
Driven by the ambition to actively expand the repertoire of his instrument, the musician worked alongside composers António Chagas Rosa, Carlos Caires, Cândido Lima, João Moreira, Fábio Chicotio, Sérgio Azevedo, Tiago Jesus, Mariana Vieira, and Luís Carvalho, serving not only as a performer but also as a catalyst and inspiration for new languages for the oboe. The result is an innovative and diverse album that blends acoustic and electronic sounds and establishes itself as a decisive contribution to the contemporary Portuguese repertoire.
Tiago Coimbra is principal oboist of the Göttinger Symphonieorchester and the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, principal guest oboist with leading international orchestras, and a member of the Art'Ventus Quintet, as well as a professor at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco. His commitment to contemporary music has led him to perform several world premieres. As a soloist in a recording of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for oboe and flute, he was awarded the Mozart Gold Medal by the Austrian association Mozartgemeinde Wien.
