Propagation (2022)
for mixed quintet and electronics
The composition process of Propagation was intermittent, with several starts and interruptions, finally being completed in 2022. The successive postponements of the premiere, canceled and rescheduled due to the pandemic situation, were, to a large extent, one of the causes of this "reluctance" to finish the piece. Propagation , in its elaboration process, but also in its musical content, is strongly influenced by the idea of the pandemic, of contagion, of propagation. The form of the piece is inspired by the graphs of the pandemic's evolution that we have become accustomed to seeing, day after day, in the news since the beginning of 2020. The electronics are imposing, constantly "interfering" with the instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano), interrupting them, changing their voice, and imposing their rhythm, their cadence. Even at the end of the work, when everything seems to calm down and the instruments seem to win, the electronics show that they are still lurking…
